Ajdovščina Square and below it the underpass of the same name at the intersection of Slovenska cesta and Gosposvetska cesta got its name from the pagan and heathen cemeteries outside the walls of the Roman Emona. Construction of the Ajdovščina Underpass began in 1976. At the time of its construction, it was considered most modern and was soon populated by many shops, boutiques and workshops. Today, due to the different layout of the city centre, this is a somewhat forgotten place, but with the introduction of new artistic content, it is fast becoming an increasingly lively and interesting space. With the revitalisation plan of the City of Ljubljana and the construction of a miniplex city cinema, it will become Ljubljana's film centre in the near future.
